Peptide Packaging and Labels That Build Trust
A peptide label has to do three jobs: state accurately what is in the vial including net peptide content and lot number, carry required disclaimers legibly, and survive refrigeration without lifting. The highest-leverage trust feature is a per-lot COA lookup — a QR or URL on the label that resolves to that lot's test results.
packaging is the only part of your supply chain the customer actually touches. it is also the part that gets decided last, by whoever has capacity that week, and it shows. a peeling label on a fogged vial with a hand-written lot number tells a customer everything they need to know about how the rest of your operation is run — and they are usually right.

what belongs on the vial label
vial labels are small, which means every element competes. the discipline is deciding what has to be on the vial versus what can live on the carton.
- —product name and, where relevant, sequence identifier.
- —net peptide content per vial — the actual peptide mass, not the gross salt weight. if counterion content means a 10mg gross vial holds 8.4mg peptide, say 8.4mg.
- —lot number, printed or ink-jetted per lot. never blank, never hand-written.
- —expiry or retest date.
- —storage condition, stated plainly.
- —the research use only statement and any other required disclaimers, at a size a person can actually read.
- —your brand name and domain.
if the vial is too small to carry all of that legibly, that is a signal to move some content to the carton — not a signal to drop to four point type. unreadable disclaimers protect nobody and look like exactly what they are.
materials that survive a fridge
- —synthetic face stock — polypropylene or polyester — rather than paper. paper wicks condensation, softens and tears.
- —a cold-temperature adhesive rated for application to and service on refrigerated surfaces. standard permanent adhesives lose tack when applied cold and lift at the edges.
- —laminate or a durable overprint varnish so the print does not smear when a wet vial gets handled.
- —thermal transfer or laser lot coding rather than an inkjet that runs when wet.
- —test it: apply labels to real vials, cycle them through a fridge for two weeks, handle them wet, and check for lift, curl and smear before you commit to a print run.
this is a two-week test that costs almost nothing and prevents a five-figure reprint. do it every time you change label vendor, stock or adhesive.
the COA lookup — the biggest trust win available
put a QR code or a short url on the label or carton that resolves to a page showing the test results for that specific lot. it is not hard: a static page per lot, or a lookup where the customer enters the lot number. what you surface is the coa pdf, hplc purity, mass spec identity confirmation, endotoxin and sterility where applicable, manufacture and expiry dates.

- —it deflects support tickets, which is real money at volume.

the carton and the unboxing
the carton is where you have room to be a brand rather than a compliance document.
- —size it to the vial with a proper insert so nothing rattles. movement equals breakage and breakage equals refunds.
- —tamper evidence — a seal or perforated closure. it costs cents and it changes how the product reads.
- —an insert with storage instructions, handling guidance, your contact route and the coa lookup. keep claims off it; your attorney will tell you what may go on.
- —a serialized or lot-marked panel so the outer carton can be matched to the vial inside without opening it.
- —recyclability where you can get it. cold chain packaging is bulky and customers notice.
consistency beats cleverness
a customer who buys three times should get three visually identical packages. changing artwork every quarter, mixing old and new cartons in the same fulfillment bin, or running one sku in a different visual system all read as instability. lock a system — typography, color, layout grid, photography treatment — and apply it across every sku so a new product looks like a member of a family rather than a different company's product.
lot coding in practice
- 1.decide where the lot number is applied: pre-printed by lot at the label printer, or applied in-line at fill.
- 2.make sure the same lot number appears on the vial, the carton and the packing slip. mismatches are a traceability failure and a customer confidence failure.
- 3.capture the lot on the order record at pick time so you can answer which orders contained lot X.
- 4.publish the lot's coa before the lot is released for sale, not after the first customer asks.
- 5.keep a physical retain sample from every lot in appropriate storage. if a question comes up eight months later, you want a sealed unit from that lot to test.
what not to put on a label
- —any therapeutic, dosing, or medical benefit claim. this is the fastest route to a regulatory problem and a payment processor shutdown.

- —purity or potency claims you cannot substantiate with lot-specific data.
- —a blank lot field or a generic batch code shared across production runs.

the artwork process
- 1.collect the required content list from your attorney first, before design starts.
- 2.design to the actual die line from your label vendor, at actual size, and print it at 100% on paper to check legibility.
- 3.legal review of the artwork proof, in writing.
- 4.order a physical proof on the actual stock with the actual adhesive.
- 5.cold-cycle test the physical proof on a real vial for two weeks.
- 6.sign off and place the print run, ordering enough for two production lots so you are not reprinting on a rush.
- 7.re-run legal review any time the copy changes, even slightly.
budget two to four weeks for this. it is almost always the long pole in a launch that is otherwise ready, which is why you start it the same week you start supplier qualification rather than after the product arrives.

should I state gross weight or net peptide content?
net peptide content, with the basis stated. peptides are isolated as salts and the counterion is part of the gross weight. labeling gross weight as if it were peptide overstates what the customer receives. ask your supplier for net peptide content per vial and put that number on the label.
what label material works best for refrigerated vials?
