Private label peptides means a qualified manufacturer produces to your spec and puts your brand on the vial and carton. You control the formulation spec, label, packaging and pricing; they control production. private label is how a med spa stops being a room full of appointments and becomes a product business. the manufacturer makes the product to your specification, prints your brand on the label, and ships it to your 3pl. you own the brand, the customer relationship, the margin and the repeat purchase. you do not own a facility, a chemist or a validation program — which is the entire point.

what private label actually gets you

the private label build, step by step
- 1.pick your first two or three skus. resist launching eight. a tight catalog is easier to source, easier to stock, and easier to advertise.
- 2.write the product spec: peptide, net peptide content per vial, fill volume, lyophilized or solution, vial size and type, stopper and seal, storage temperature, shelf life target.
- 3.qualify manufacturers against that spec — coa standards, testing scope, capacity, moq, lead time. do not skip independent verification of lot one.
- 4.lock artwork and label copy with your attorney's review. this is the step that most often blows the timeline.
- 5.approve a physical proof. always a physical proof, never a pdf. colors shift, small type fills in, adhesive fails on cold vials.
- 6.place the first production order and set your reorder trigger before the first shipment lands.
- 7.receive into your 3pl, inspect the lot, pull test samples, then release for sale.
the spec sheet is the contract
everything you did not write down is something the manufacturer gets to decide. a real spec sheet names net peptide content rather than gross weight, states the acceptable purity floor, defines endotoxin limits for sterile product, sets the storage condition, and specifies what happens when a lot fails. get all of it in writing and reference the spec sheet in the purchase order.
label and artwork requirements
labels do two jobs: legal compliance and trust. get either one wrong and the product does not sell, or sells and creates a problem.
- —product name and net peptide content, stated accurately. if counterion content means a 10mg gross vial contains 8.4mg net peptide, the label reflects that.
- —lot number and expiry or retest date, printed or ink-jetted per lot — not left blank, not hand-written.
- —storage conditions in plain language and in a symbol customers actually read.
- —the research use only statement and any other disclaimers your attorney requires, at a legible size, not five-point grey type in a corner.
- —your brand, your domain and a contact route. a customer who cannot reach you files a chargeback instead.
- —a way to verify: a lot lookup url or QR that resolves to the COA for that lot. this is the single strongest trust signal in the category and almost nobody does it.
material matters more than people expect. a paper label on a vial that lives at 2-8C and gets pulled in and out of a fridge will lift and curl. use a synthetic face stock with a cold-temperature adhesive rated for refrigerated application, and test it on an actual vial in an actual fridge for two weeks before you print ten thousand.

run that stack on your realistic first order volume, not on the volume tier the sales rep wants to talk about. then set price against landed cost with enough room for cac, refunds and the shipping subsidy you will inevitably offer.
a working margin target
in this category you want landed cost at or under 20-25% of retail on your core sku once you are past the first order or two. that leaves room for a customer acquisition cost that a paid social channel can actually deliver, plus the shipping and packaging load, plus a refund reserve. if you are at 45% landed cost, no amount of ad optimization saves the model — go fix the sourcing.
how fast can you actually launch
if you are starting from zero relationships, three to four months is honest: supplier qualification, sample testing, artwork and legal review, production, freight, 3pl onboarding, store and payments. if you are plugging into pre-vetted supply with artwork templates that have already been through legal, and a 3pl already set up for cold chain, under two weeks is real — because the long poles were already raised before you showed up.
the decision is basically whether you want to build the supply chain or rent it while you build the brand. for most med spa operators the answer is obvious: your edge is the audience and the offer, not the logistics.

do I need my own COAs if the manufacturer provides them?

who owns the formulation and artwork?
spell it out in the agreement. you should own your artwork, brand assets and the spec sheet you wrote. the manufacturer owns their process. what you want to avoid is a contract where they can sell your exact specced sku to a competitor, or where they hold your artwork files hostage during a supplier change.
how long does artwork and label approval take?
budget two to four weeks including attorney review and a physical proof cycle. it is almost always the longest non-production step, so start it in parallel with supplier qualification rather than after.
can I private label without holding inventory?
not really, and you should not want to. private label means custom units that exist because you ordered them, which means someone is holding them. what you can do is have a 3pl hold them instead of your clinic — which is the right answer anyway for cold chain, and is how nearly every brand at scale runs.
